Dr. Neumann weighs in on free play and toddler development

PLAY TIME: Our take on the importance of
free play in toddler development

I'm happy to bring you another installment of our Dr. Karl Neumann podcast series. In case you missed parts one and two, Dr. Neumann specializes in pediatric medicine and has been helping us shed light on some important toddler topics. In his first podcast, he discussed toddler feeding and nutrition. Then he followed it up with advice on picky eaters.

Today, Dr. Neumann will be discussing free play and development. As you might remember, last October, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released a statement that discourages the overuse of media for toddlers under the age of two. It also recommends that toddlers are exposed to no more than two hours of screen time per day. We wanted to get Dr. Neumann's take on these new guidelines, and he gave us some great insights.

Listen to the podcast below to hear Dr. Neumann tackle the topics of childhood media use, toys that promote development, and parent-encouraged free play.

If you don't have time to listen, I'll leave you with his top advice: Listen to the expert guidelines, talk to your friends, do your own research ... but then make sure that you pick a lifestyle that works for you and your family.

Thanks again Dr. Neumann for continuing to lend your expertise to our podcast series. We learned a lot from your great advice and are looking forward to seeing you back on OnCloudMom soon! If you'd like to download Dr. Neumann's podcast to listen on-the-go, feel free to do so.
