New Year's Resolutions

2013 – and so begins another year with resolutions, promises and fresh slates. I love this time of year because we can all start anew. No matter what happened last year, January is the time to push forward. As a Mom, I feel like I do it every day! Some days my kids make it super easy and other days, well, not so much. This year, however, I resolve to work harder, play harder and enjoy life to the max.  For breastfeeding Moms, this may mean an extra pumping session, a stolen cuddle, or even an extra-long nursing session. Infancy is fleeting, and so is breastfeeding, but looking ahead at a new year can help put things into perspective and slow down time – even just a little. Need a little help mapping it all out? Check out some new year’s suggestions below.
  1. Be your own biggest champion – turn your thinking from  “I think I can” to “I know I can” whether it’s breastfeeding for 3 months, 6 months, 12 months or beyond believing in yourself (something we don’t always do) is half the battle.
  2. Work with an LC – if half the battle is believing in yourself, the other half is getting it right. Feel like your baby needs a little extra help latching on? Teeth causing some issues? Talk to a lactation consultant. There’s no better place for help – no matter if baby is 3 months or 6 months.
  3. Keep your supply cabinet stocked – there’s nothing worse than needing a breast pad, and having none, or looking for Lanolin and using all your strength to squeeze out the last extra drop. Have nursing pads, milk storage bags and other supplies in reserve so when you are running around like a wild woman, it will be one less thing to worry about!
